Making Our Thanksgiving Tree Craft

If you're looking for a fun and simple Thanksgiving craft, this one cannot get any simpler.  All you need is construction paper, scissors, and some markers or crayons.  I also love this craft because it aids in teaching our children the true meaning of Thanksgiving.  After you have cut out the leaf shapes have your children write what they're thankful for right on the leaf.  If you have little ones that cannot write yet, make it fun and assist them in writing the word or words by guiding their hand. I did this with my 3 year old, Rebecca.  To make the trunk of the tree I cut brown construction paper in half and stapled them together long-wise.  We did this craft as part of our learning about Thanksgiving in school yesterday.  Another great thing about this particular craft is that you can continue to add more leaves as you get closer to the actual Thanksgiving day.  Enjoy!

Learning From Our Children

"God has so constituted us that in loving and caring for our own children the richest and best things in our natures are drawn out. Many of the deepest and most valuable lessons ever learned are read from the pages of unfolding child life.  We talk about training our children, but they train us first, teaching us many a sacred lesson, stirring up in us many a slumbering gift and possibility, calling out many a hidden grace and disciplining our wayward powers into strong and harmonious character."

Being Thankful For People

My two year old son, Timmy, looked up at me today and said words I know each mom of several children longs to hear..."Mommy, thank you for my baby brother."  "What a beautiful thing!"  That's all my heart could think of over and over again.  What a profound lesson to be learned at the age of two.  To be thankful for the people God has placed in our lives and to voice this appreciation should be one of the goals in our every day life, especially and beginning within our own four walls.  So with Thanksgiving just around the corner, I will follow my two year old son's lead and from the bottom of my heart thank God for my beautiful family.
